what is my spydie?

I made the mistake of posting this topic in the general knife discussion, didn't know this was here. Sorry.

Anyhoo, I got a little spyderco the other day on impulse, just cause it was so cute. It's small and the blade is hollowed out in the shape of the logo spider and web. It was relatively inexpensive (a little under 40 bucks) and I was told the handle is plastic, making the knife cheaper. The lock and clip and some of the other parts are made of heavy wire. Still, it seems sturdy enough for light duty use and to carry in my pocket. It's very light. I have a spider tattoo and think spiders are really cool so I could not resist getting this knife.
I couldn't find any info on this model on the spyderco websight. I didn't get a box at the store, I just put it in my pocket and left. Is it a "real" spyderco? Will they honor the warrenty? I didn't get a card or anything to register the knife. Is this a knife for looks or can I use it too? It has the straight edge. I don't know what steel the blade is either.

Greetings Gitarmac~
The knife you have described is the SP C35 "Q" and it has been discontinued. There are over 50 variations of this model, including the Spydie Bug that you have.
The blade is made of 440C steel and it definitly is a "user friendly" knife. We honor the warranty on all Spyderco knives, including this one.
You have a knife that many people are looking for. Take good care of it

As the previous thread said, it is the discontinued "Q". "Discontinued" in the Spyderco circles often means "collectible".

Under $40? Congratulations. You got good deal considering the inflated prices they often trade for on E-bay.

Thanks for the info! I did a search and wound up ordering a stars and stripes from AG russell knives. It was about the same price. I think I have a new habit!

Your on a long road since Sal Glesser has pointed out that there are over 50 "Q" variations out there. Good luck! Try the knifecenter as lokelani (aka patti@sfo) said they could be found there.

A couple of months ago, there was a thread where someone posted pictures of their "Q" collection. It was fantastic. There were "Q"'s of different cut-outs, blade colors, etc.

The best part of having a "Q" is that I heard the chicks dig it!
