I am considering buying the Savannah Fixed Hunting Knife 5" Blade with Micarta handle, which is made of N690BO steel. However I cannot find any info on this steel other than "special alloy containing cobalt". Is it stainless? What is the typical hardness and carbon content? How does it compare with D2 in terms of toughness and edge retention?

Thanks,
Barnaby

This is a Austrian steel. this is a special alloy exclusively for Boker.
You can have a look into our (German) steelchart.
BUT, there you will only find a stell called N690CO, which is used by Spyderco, Extrema Ratio ... Our steel is comparable to it, but with slightly different ingredients...

I will try to put a steel chart on the Boker USA site... cause I could find one.
The Savannah is a great hunting or general purpose knife! It is compact and really strong and the handle is very comfortable...
