What is paddle carry?

seeing the option for "paddle carry" from some makers websites. what is that?
 
If it is the same thing one finds with gun holsters, its a wide, flat piece of leather or plastic that goes between your belt and pants. The sheath or holster attaches to that. Its a pretty comfortable and stable way to carry a sheath or holster. Link.

In leather it could be just a large flat piece folded over, much like you see for a fold over belt loop, but not stitched down.
Makes for easy on and off too, without having to un-do your belt.

Here is a Kydex paddle on a folder sheath that I designed and offer as an option.

Usually a curved piece of plastic/kydex that's shaped to fit against your hip... it goes inside the pants and isnt' seen from the outside where all you see is a sheath/holster etc. Like this:
