Recently i bought a Marbles #10 camp axe on craigslist for 35 dollars because i found on other sites that previous auctions had sold them from 50 to almost 300 dollars for this particular axe. So i figure i see what so special bout it. I am ready for the history lesson.

Welcome Madgyver
Marbles is an old American knife and axe making company founded by Webster Marbles early in the 20th century. He was a great innovator and designer. They're knives and axes are very well thought of amongst collectors and heavily collected, and thus pricey. I have no experience with the old axes other than watching them go at auction for pretty high prices. I have had a number of early Woodcrafter fixed blade knives that I loved and are great working knives. As for the value. I believe it is driven by the collector market rather than the user market so prices are likely somewhat higher than an equivenent piece of a lessor collected company. Here's a link to the Marbles collectors club where you may be able to figure it out ;-)) http://marblesplus.knifeclubs.com/?tag=history
Someone here may have experience with the axes and will throw their 2 cents worth in.
Another thing. There are some very early knives with marks that preceed the later and usual Marbles mark, these are very valueable.
Best regards

Robin

You also need to remember their stuff is made overseas now, and has been for some time, so you need to realize what you think you have may not be what you think it is, if that makes sense.
