what is stag

This might sound like a stupid Q. to alot of you guys that cust make knives, but I have seen so many knives claiming the handles are real STAG, but look like plastic or some other man made matter. My Q is simple what is STAG and are there diff. types of material that can be called STAG?

Stag is deer antler.

IMHO the most favorite of all "stag" is the Indian Sambhar horns.
