we knew, the Gen5 was named "the 5th generation" skinner,

what is the 1th...2th...3th...4th.....skinner knife?

does 103BKS is one of the generation skinner knife?

thanks

I am thinking it was named 5th generation, not because it is the 5th skinner, but it is for the 5th genreation Buck (Josh Buck). Here is a ad from a inter-net site that I pasted here.

Buck Gen 5 Skinner #005LE

A 5th Generation, Josh Buck design, this elegant, streamlined skinner features a mirror polished blade of 154CM steel (signed by Josh Buck), polished brass guard and a handle of exotic Snake Wood. A custom designed sheath accompanies this "first" edition of the fifth generation.

Here's a quote from the Buck catalog description of the Gen-5. Josh designed the knife.

"There's a little bit of Al Buck's streamlined thinking in the lean, simple lines that set the tone for the Gen-5 knife. Josh Buck took many of the same design elements that made great grandfather's knife so popular and created the Gen-5. By taking out the bulk typically found in skinning knives, the Gen-5 functions impeccably without added weight."

as i under stand it Josh worked at all positions at buck
it was during his tenure in the design shop he come up with the efficient skinner
there are other 5th gen working at buck ...
but he seems to be the one that wants to advance to head the company some day
he spends his time at collage when not working at the company last i heard
he is as nice as his grand father and and when he talks with you
he seems to hang on every word you say like his father..

I sure wish now that i knew Chuck Buck was going to be in Maine at LL.beans just after I went,Someday I hope to meet him and shake his hand,He is a one of a kind man from what i've been told ,I would love to meet him and talk Bucks.LOL,EVEN FOR 2 MINUTES I'D BE HAPPY!

I really like the look and feel of the knife. Their is one Gen5 in the 2010 catalog with stag and turquoise that looks really super. I am hoping to pick that one up this year.

I remember seeing a picture of Josh holding the knife, he looks likes a nice young man. I didn't know all that about him, hopefully we may see more designs from Josh Buck in the future.

OH GOD......

The "generation" is for the leader(CEO) of BUCK ......that is !

thank you very much!

Well, Josh isn't CEO (yet) but he is one of the 5th Generation Bucks and designed the Gen-5, hence the name.

One of many beautiful new knives in the 2010 catalog. I wish I could afford them all, but I will have to limit myself to just a few of the really fine ones.

I have three versions of the Gen-5. I like them and will be ordering one of those myself. When I got hold of the first one, I thought, "Wow, it's tiny!". They are pretty small, an 1 5/8" shorter overall length than a 110, but very pretty!

Oh keep quiet! ;) You're making me reconsider. I just looked up the price and at a $240. MSRP it's not too bad next to the $430. and $1050. knives I'm considering. The Turquoise Gen-5 is a beauty. I'll have to think about this. :)

If you like the Gen-5's, check the June 2009 BCCI newsletter. They offered a real pretty one there. I think they are still available.

hi brother

i am not a BCCI member yet , could you paste the pic of this BCCI's gen5 ?

thank you

Last I heard, there were a total of seven left, so better hurry if you want one.
You would make a good used car salesman, buy now before it is too late. Of course becoming a BCCI member, I think is a good thing, so go ahead and sell.......
