What is the best folder for survival use?

I would realy want a fixed blade, but I guess if I had to use a folder in a survival situation it would be the one in my pocket, Benchmade/emerson cqc7. When out in the bush I always have a fixed blade with me and keep a fixed blade in my day pack for daily carry..

I too always have my fixed blade in the woods. This is one of those hypathetical questions that is mostly just for fun. So please, no fixed blades, folders only.

Spyderco Paramillie. Good corrosion resistant steel, very strong lock that the grit can be cleared from easily, and blade geometry that lends itself well to the types of tasks in this situation. It's lightweight and the G10 is very tough and grippy. The grip shape also works well in different grip configurations.

I've been using the Buck Strider as my heavy duty folder. I'd also be just as confident with my old Buck 110.

A large locking SAK with a saw would do me - but I guess that's not in the spirit of the question, so from my collection;

Spyderco Manix, Military or D'Allara rescue.

Any folder would do me fine because I'd adapt to it's capabilities, (which is another one of those annoying, not in the spirit of the question, answers) but a bit of size and heft would be nice.

As much as it's cliche to say it, I'd say it was the one in my pocket at the time. Hopefully, I was carrying my BM Mini Stryker or my D'Allara Rescue. I know their blade shape mmight be limited for some applications, but they're about as big a knife I carry. Most likely a big drop point would be nice,IMO.

My Chris Reeve small sebenza is always with me, so I suppose that's the folder that's most likely to be in my pocket in the event of a survival situation. Can't think of any other folder that I'd rather have, unless it was a large sebenza. :)

Well I always carry my BM Griptilian. Pretty strong. the doug ritter ones a great one. Diffrent steel but same handle. I saw in my tactical knives magazine last year they batoned it. pretty sturdy knife if you ask me. the ritter ones like 107 the one i got is 63......

i guess whatever you choose a frame lock couldnt hurt , just a little more reliability i guess . also a robust stop pin and all the things that keep the blade on the knife . id look at a emerson hd -7 or similar imho.

Buck 110. Good all rounder, tested by time.

BTW that Lone Wolf Harsey Tactical Ranger is one sweet looking knife!

*looks around for credit card*:D

If my Vic Rucksack SAK doesn't meet the "spirit of the question" I would go with my Gerber Parabellum, honkin' big blade & locks up like a bank vault.
Gene :D

Manix is one of the better folders I have seen so far. Very high cutting ability and enough weight and heft for a solid amount of limbing. It works better than a lot of smaller fixed blades for the heavier work.
