My favorite is the M-43,however I would like to kn ow what are other peoples preferences and why.;)

I reckon just about any H.I. Khukri would do the job.

My preference is the Chitlangi. As I've posted before, I consider it a great compromise between the Ang Khola's awesome brute force cleaving power and the Sirupati's speed and agility.

No, it's not the power chopper an AK is.

No, it's not as fast and nimble as a Sirupati.

But it's a little bit of both, and a "generalist" always has an advantage over a "specialist" in a survival situation.

I like the M43 also, but I prefer a longer handle.

My true best survival khukri is the one I'm still waiting on to arrive from Nepal. It's a special request modified Chitlangi I theorized based on my observations about some khukris I use regularly.

It depends on your geographical location, which determines the type of flora you'd be working with. Here in the south,I prefer a lighter weight blade for working with underbrush, palmettos, vines, and thick grasses. Generally that means a sirupate, chainpure,or kobra.

My favorite all-arounder is the BAS. It seems to be right in the middle of the chopper/slasher spectrum; maybe trending a little more toward chopping.

Well, if you are including the whole "system" of kukri, karda and chakma, then any one will be a better survival tool than just about anything else out there. At which point, it becomes "Which one do you like to cart around the most?"

In that vein, mine is my first, a custom 20" CAK. Big and powerful enough to cut down a tree in short order, easy enough to keep sharp enough to cut all but the soft grasses with ease (I use a scandi grind rather than the convex I used to have. It holds up just as well -- so far -- for big wood cutting and makes short work of palmettos, vines and the like). And the Karda on the larger kukris is large enough to be a decent utility knife.

Mine will have to be the 17.5" villager ganga ram...my first real khuk. I have purchased many since then...and used them, but the ganga ram sees 10X the work of any other khuk. Any will work given your familiarity and confidence in it. Size is probably the deciding factor since if your surviving you are probably hoofing it.

Here's an idea that's been in my head for a while:

How about taking your pick as your ultimate survival khukri in your collection, and adding a pouch for a Leatherman Super Tool to the sarki?

I'm going to do that eventually.

Your favorite khukri, with the karda and chakma, with a Leatherman added to it, would pretty much cover the bases regarding anything you might need.

Wolf_1989 Sounds like a project I'm working on,I've acquired some large sheets of .093 kydex and ordered some cheap mil-surplus pouches. I'll build a kydex sheath for the khukuri, and I'll use a FAllkniven F1 I just put G10 on for a Karda. I plan to make a pouch out of one of the mil-surplus pouches to hold tinder etc. I'm thinking a baldric attachment to carry everything.

Leatherman tool idea is a good one wolf. As for the baldric I am currently looking into that idea as well. I definitely make use of the whole package and generaly carry either a JKM -1 or my R-10 as well.

I need a baldric for my 26" Chitlangi. That big beast is fun to use and I'm big enough and strong enough to pack it, but man don't count on keeping your pants up when you've strapped on a khukri of that size. You'll be chopping during a full moon.

So far as the "all-in-one" khukuri sheath goes, I'd say that the one problem with that approach is that if you lose the sheath, you lose everything.

Personally, I like having some things in pockets, some things in the pack, etc. What I'm tempted by is getting a sheath that I can put on a belt or strap to a pack or vest without trouble.

That said, I haven't been in a true survival situation, so I can't speak from experience. Of course, I've managed to stay out of survival situations so far...

My 0.00002 cents,

F

How about this combo, guys.

Chiruwa Ang Khola + Fehrman's Last Chance.

Both indestructible. Last Chance is CPM 3V steel. CAK is 5160.

I like combo sheaths for smaller blades. Like a knife with a sheath that has a pocket for a sharpening stone.

But for a kukri, no, not really. I'm seriously considering having Ilbruche make me one of his quickdraw sheaths with a shoulder strap, and a sheath for my R-10 that I can wear horizontal or vertical.

My 20" CAK and R-10 are the two blades I can't seem to bear leaving behind on an outdoor excursion.

Man what a tough choice. Adding the karda into the equation lets you choose a heavier khuk. But if your swinging it a lot lighter is better. I'd probably want a thinner, lighter blade but wide.

So either a Foxy Folly, Samsher or Gelbu Special depending on what climate I am in.

On most day hikes I carry a 5" Fixed blade and a Khukuri for trail clearing. Mostly I wear my 20" Sirupati or 16.5" WWII. I feal confident in both of them for clearing trails of brush and logs up to 9-10" in diemeter, splitting wood, and so on. All of which could come in handy in a survival situation.

I usually carry my 21.5" Chitlangi, a Camillus "kabar" clone, and a Spyderco Merlin (serrated).

When I know I absolutely need to chop something really substantial and big, it's time for the 20" Ang Khola instead.

I'd pack a BAS. Its a real khuk and can handle the real work, but its also packable. I'd get rid of the accy knives and mod the rig so it carries easily. I'd pair it with a 4" fixed blade and a SAK Huntsman. That trio would cover a lot of bases.

The khuk I picked was a light 18" AK. What I did was replace the chakmak with a set of DMT diamond hones... think I used a Mora instead of the stock karda, too.

I can't say that I know what the perfect khuk for survival is, but I have always found myself reaching for my early Sanu made YCS. 17 1/2 inches and about 27 oz. It has two large karda and the awl. It has a sheath by Terry Sisco that carries it all well. That is MY favorite go to woods khuk. If I wanted more reach. I have a 21 1/2 + " and 28 oz Foxy's Folly that is wonderful in the wods. Just a little to long to carry, unless it was lashed to a pack.
