What Swamp Rat would you recommend for field dressing big game? This would be my first fixed blade knife, so, go big or go home, right. It doesn't have to be a Swamp Rat, if you would recommend a differnt one. Maybe a Rodent Solution, RMD or Rodent 4. Thanks.

Maybe the swamp rat vexillarius, great size, nice thin blade, tough pretty corrosion resistant, great edge retention D2 steel !

^^That^^

and the Howling Rat LM performed very well for me with deer and pig.

I give a BIG  to the Vex. been using one for a few years. I have butchered close to a hundred deer with it. Pretty much any of the small knives will do the job. It is all up to personal preference as to which one works best. Busse has the Active duty which is also very nice. Scrap Yard has the Yard Keeper and War Dog which have there advantages. I suggest try a few and see what works best for you.

i have a vex and rodent solution. i edc the RS and have cleaned hogs with it. the vex would probably be a little better

Is it going to be used only to process game? I ask because if it's a multi-roll fixed blade, the recommendations can get more precise. It's probably easiest to order a Solution or RMD, the new Full Flat RMD has a lot of potential as a great do a lot fixed blade. Several of other models have to be sourced from the exchange.

Well, i haven't used one of my rats on big game yet, but I'm pretty sure that the best choice would be the satin Swamp Muk!

Sadly, it has yet to be made :o

But for the knives I HAVE used processing game, the current Rodent Solution and Rodent 4 are of similar design ;)

Would you rather have the longer rodent 4 or the Rodent Solution for field dressing?

Hard choice. But, for me, the Solution's handle wins hands down.
I agree with leatherman, the Solution's handle is a winner, heck the overall design is a winner, but I can't compare it to the Rodent 4 as I've never handled one... But here's a thought, buy both and sell whichever doesn't speak as well to you, or buy which ever most appeals to you and trade it for the other if you're unsatisfied ;) These things don't really lose their value, you'll make the money back or all but shipping fees - think of it as "renting" the knife for a while :)

I have used my Rodent solution on several coyotes and i am trying to work up the nerve to use my HCLE on the next yote! I know it will be perfect for the job!

I've got a Satin Solution onthe way. I'll let you know how it does this winter...

Edited to add: MCinfantry, i watched some of your other Rodent Solution vids, I think your hammers have a serious crush on it as they keep humpin' it's butt! lol

Yea a lot of dislikes on the videos. But like the 12 ive sold by proxy, everyone says theirs will last FOREVER based on the stuff I do.

Nothing I own is a Safe queen. Nothing

Which is why I have both hawks on order.

Only safe queens I own are the rat swords, I just have other blades better suited for beatin', and I just can't bring myself to pull 'em outta the safe. However, you won't see me dislikin' your vids. I actually commend you on the beatin' you served that RS!

HCLE 4" and the Wiener Dog are my faves. Going to give the solution a try out this year though.
