The best tire inflater would be a good American made belt driven oil bathed compressor. I doubt that's what you are looking for, I would look at companies that are well known and not ebay specials.

Are you looking for a 12volt inflater to run off your battery or a 115V unit to inflate at home?

Neither is a terribly strong design, oilfree and loud, but they do work.

Thanks for the reply man.

I am looking for one of those car ones. The type you put in the car lighter.

I like the ones that came in the tire kits for Corvette Z06 cars. The kit comes with some kind of sealant, but I replaced the sealer woth a plug kit.

So far, it seems to be a quality piece, made in Germany, and the gage is accurate.

I also looked at the kits that come with some BMW and Mercedes cars, since they seemed well made, too.

I had a WallyWorld special, but that pump died after a few exteneded uses.

A 13 cubic foot SCUBA tank is lightning quick and will fill all 4 tires.

Here's a list: http://www.leisurepro.com/prod/AQUTP.html?ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=AQUTP40

You'll also need a very old used/abused "first stage regulator" (eBay for $10) and a low pressure hose (used for $3)

Screw the hose into the regulator, then clip off the end of the hose. This will cover the end of any tire filler valve quite nicely. Feather the valve open on the tank, and there you go.

Downside? You need to find a SCUBA shop that will fill the tank for you (or a pal who holds a SCUBA Certification card, if they hold to that voluntary standard); you'll need to get it hydrostatically pressure tested (a fire extinguisher place is the cheapest) every 5 years, or no-one will re-fill it.

I run my Jeep tires down at 12psi for sand dunes, then, instead of waiting in line at the exit for the crowd to die-down for the free air hose at the dune buggy shop, I crack out the scuba tank and am inflated back to road pressure in seconds.

I've got an old Black and Decker 120v air station. Picked it up at Kmart cheap back when and it works well for light use on bicycles and cars. Not very ergonomic, but gets the job done. Real noisy.

I just purchased a Viair 80P which clips to you battery. Pretty good for a portable compressor. Purchased it on Amazon for about $47.
