As far as a fixed blade no more than 5.5 inch blade (that is concealable) would be perfect for back up? I am lookin to replace my Cold Steel mini tanto, which IMO is hands down the BEST small fixed blade ever. So you know what I'm talkin about now. Can you help?

What is the Best?
To answer that question, you'll need to assign some parameters(Cost, Materials, Custom, Production,Weight, etc). I'll assume ;) since you are replacing a "Cold Steel mini tanto" you've already established your budget at replacement cost for the CS.
If not,the BUSSE or STRIDER lines would be a great place to start. Then you'll need to check out at least a dozen custom makers. After completing that research, you'll realize the surface has only been scratched. Enjoy the HUNT!

if the Cold Steel mini-tanto works for you so well, why not stick with it? Busse now makes some smaller knives, in stainless you can also look at Fallkniven, also Spyderco recently has produced some very interesting fix-bladed knives like their collaboration, Fred Perrin bowie.
Or if you like tanto style, see the new Bob Lum fix blade by Spyderco, I have not handled it but it appears very lightweight and optimised for tactical use.

Bladeswinger,
A little more info would help us suggest the right blade for you. (ie cost, materials, etc)

Do you want the best, or the best for the lowest price.

Without knowing a little more it's hard to suggest specific blades but take a look at www.bussecombat.com or www.swamprat.com

I have to agree. Give us some kind of idea what you are looking at spending. Are you looking at staying with a tanto style tip?

Ditto on Eric's recommendation.

The Swamp Rat line currently has a 9 & 7 inch offering, and knowing them, they will soon have blades in the 3-5" range. The pricing for the 7 & 9 would seem to point to prices for the "smaller" blades down around $100 or maybe even less (I hope...).

Check out the site. I'd guess that the 3-5 blades will be out this summer.

This new line rocks. The warranty is unbelievable.

Let us know what you decide.

If you can afford it, go with either the Strider EB series or one of the smaller Busses, like a Badger Attack III or Satin Jack.

I also recommend checking out Swamp Rat and Busse. Both have some great small fixed blades.

In this size, one of my favorites is the SwampRat Killer B style blade. It is soon to come out (apparently :D ), and is amazing. It is very light, has a very fine tip, and a nice taper, almost distal. The Busse Badger Attack III and Groovemaster are also great knives, and I think they'd fill your needs well. You can't go wrong with knives from either company :D

Sorry about the lack of info guys. But I do like the tanto blade style, I think thats a great defensive choice. I will spend up to $250.00. The reason for my fave being the C.S. Mini Tanto is for me being 5 feet 5 inches it fits perfect in my hand, very concealable, has a great hand guard, and the kraton rubber handles stick to your hand and feels very, very comfortable. The reason for my hanging up he C.S. mini is cuz it is beat up and they no longer make them. I should have bought 2 more when heard they were going to discontinue them, but of course I procrastinated and now I'm pissed at myself:mad: . Thanx for all your responses, now what ya guys think?

Skip cold steel, i doubt you need to spend strider or Busse $, but the new smaller busse's are something to consider.

Look into the benchmade nimravus

So far I really like the Busse Killer "B" 4 incher, but I'm not sure what type of handle they have. I love the grips on the swamprat and may have to wait till there new knives to come out.
