What is technically considered concealed? I often carry knives, and wonder if my knife is considered consealed if the bulk of the knife is in my pocket, and only the clip and very top of the knife are exposed. (the clip is clipped on the pocket) I gather this is what the clips were designed for (as opposed to using it with the whole knife exposed) but I could be wrong.

thx!

The dictionary says:

con·ceal (kn-sl)
tr.v. con·cealed, con·ceal·ing, con·ceals
To keep from being seen, found, observed, or discovered; hide.

I think you are OK by using the clip. I don't consider that concealed. You aren't trying to hide the fact that you have a knife, you are carrying it as designed. Using a clip to carry a knife in your pocket is no more concealed than if carrying in a sheath. The sheath hides the knife also.

This isn't to say that an overzealous officer might not push the issue.

I believe that the definition varies somewhat by jurisdiction. It is my understanding that a clip-carried knife is not considered concealed in California. However, I have heard that some jurisdictions consider a knife concealed if the exposed portion is not large enough to make the object readily identifiable as a knife.
