what is the difference in a '99 and 2002 commander?

i plan to get a '99 full size, waved, black-plain, chised edge.
i "heard" the lock was different and the earlier model locks were unreliable.
i have a 2002 mini commander and it works fine(except for the annoying "squeak" when opening and/or closing.
any truth to the "rumors" of problem/dangerous locks?

I had a 2000 Commander which I returned to EKI due to lock
failure.They quickly replaced it w/ 2002 model, no questions asked.
The 02 has a slightly smaller (3.65") blade w/ no top swedge.
No problems whatsoever w/ the 02. Thanks to the fine folks at EKI.

The stop pins on the '02s are bigger than on the '99s. Also the backspacer is longer.
