Hello to all, I am interested in the Spyderco Police model knife and have found a few online with the ATS-55 Stainless blade and the VG-10 blade. Is one better than the other, because i have noticed about a 30.00 price difference. If one blade is better than the other do i really need to spend the extra money, and what is the difference. Thanks for the info and time.

Ihgdale, Welcome to the Forums.

You can check Toolshed section of our forums. The first thread has very good steel FAQ by Joe Talmadge http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=368828

Also, if you buying on line, may be not a bad idea to search info about dealer's reputation (especially, if price looks too good). You can do it in "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly!" section.

Now if you can get the ATS-55 for $30 cheaper you won't be getting burned at all. My EDC which is a Spyderco C-44 big Dyad has ATS-55 blades and it is great. The one brother is right however. They have proven that VG-10 is just a bit better steel than ATS-55. But I wouldn't turn down either one of them myself. There are really only 2 blade steels that Spyderco has used that I don't like. One is AUS-6 and one is 440A. Other than that I find most of their blade steels fit the premium category.
