What is the difference,.....................

Hi John,

I would assume you would be talking about the difference between the "S1 Bowie" aka '5th special forces bowie' and the "SOG Bowie 2.0".

Here's a quick comparison (SOG S1/SOG Bowie 2.0)
Blade length: 6.25"/6.4"
Blade thickness: .280"/.230"
Overall length: 10.75"/11"
Blade steel: SK-5/AUS 8
Coating: Gun-blued/Black TiNi

If you were talking about the "SOG Bowie Commemorative" - S1C, the S1C has a serial number engraved on the guard of the knife, while the original one does not. That is the most distinguishing feature for me. Other than that everything else is the same (other than the fact that the S1C comes in a presentation box).

Cheers,
Mark ;)

Thanks Mark, you were correct in your assumption. Rather than settle for the 2.0 I'll keep looking for the S1 Bowie.

the catalog shows the sog bowie 2 as the s1 model with 6.4" blade and aus 8. so I guess the s1 is a different model?

deltablade,

You are confused by the clever marketing by SOG. :)

Perhaps you have not seen the S1 Bowie yet. It is the flagship knife that SOG produced in 1986 (discontinued now) and not the newer "S1T Bowie" aka 'SOG Bowie 2.0' that is now in the catalog which has a black TiNi coated blade. The newer one in the catalog is not made using SK-5 steel unlike the original 'S1 Bowie'. :p If you look at my above post I have highlighted the main differences.

Also note that the S1 Bowie was made in Seki, Japan whereas the SOG Bowie 2.0 is made in Taiwan.

Hope this helps! :D

Cheers,
Mark ;)
