what is the edge grind on a busse

I don't have any of these knives, but I've been somewhat fascinated with them for awhile. I'm still a little bit skeptical of the miraculous claims made of the steel, but I'll take your word on that for now. I guess I'll have to get one and try it.

what is the exact edge geometry I don't even know whether it's convex or regular v grind. or something even more exotic if it is a v grind. what angle is it ground to I am used to comparatively tiny spyderco fixed blades and folders that are primarily slicing implements with about a 30° angle 15° on each side. I know some people have their busse custom reground I wonder what angle this is usually done to. Also it looks as if some of the custom shop models are convex. If it truly doesn't need to be reground sharpen convex would be my choice.

Also I have something of a fascination with the war boar which actually seems to be a decent deal, in comparison to some of the other models, although this model would be fabulously illegal to carry in public in California. and it still interests me, if anyone has a comparison picture of this knife either in comparison to a larger busse or better yet a common spyderco or similar for comparison I would greatly appreciate it. Any opinions on this piece would also be greatly appreciated.

To be honest most of my knife friends online View busse as sharpened crowbars only suitable for rough hacking. with few exceptions I can kind of agree with this I can see preparing even a rough camp meal with a hell raiser or fusion battle mistress.

In comparison the knife closest to what I'm used to and maybe most suited to my tastes as a realistic user is the active duty with it's thinner steel profile.

If you order from the shop, you can request a thinned edge of your choice. I think they usually come stock with a convex edge.

Edge on Busses currently produced, or those produce within the last few years, is a convex edge.

Re the War Boar, it is the toughest karambit out there. It is not a great slicer and tends to rip cardboard, for eg, rather than slice through it. Still, the inside and outside edge feels very very sharp. IMO, a War Boar is best left to those times when you rely on a blade for self-defence and you need one that will not come out of your hand very easily. If you have a War Boar in your hand and look serious about defending yourself, the guy on the other end would be foolish in the extreme to ignore it.

Unless you mean "convex edge" in the sense that nothing is theoretically ever perfectly straight, then ok. But I'm pretty sure my Wardens are all full flat primary grinds with a "V edge" secondary grind. The secondary on my CGFBM seems like a "V grind" too. If they are convex, they are only so at the actual edge which you can't see with the naked eye.

It's suprisingly easy to sharpen INFI, so you can thin out the edges as you please with practically any method of sharpening.

I’m an old Spyderco fan and they make fine folders for the price and some are fine at any price. But now all I do is sell the Spydercos I have except for ones like the Manix or a Kopa.

Even considering that I spent years with very sharp slicing knives I’m still very happy with the Busses, I have never pulled out a Busse user (like an Active Duty or Mean Streets, or Game Warden) and said “Oh I really need a Spyderco”. But I have had a folder in my pocket and gone back to the car or back into my backpack for a Busse so I’d be sure that the knife wouldn’t break. Also the flip side of the comparison of Busse as a crow bar is that now all my Spydercos seem so fragile that I can’t see doing much with them but cutting up the apple in my lunch.

That has been my experience yours may be different.

Wouldn't want to take your Corvette to an off-road rally, now would you? :)

As an interesting comparison, my two favorite knives (today) are my Dozier Companion (.135 thick) and my Busse Black Tie Game Warden (.140 thick). Both are 3 inches long. The Dozier cuts somewhat better - A.G. Russell believes Bob Dozier makes the sharpest knives on the planet. But I worry a bit about how thin the Companion is. On the other hand, the Game Warden is VERY sharp and seems much tougher.

Lots of choices out there, but hard to believe you can't find what you need in the Busse line-up. Also hard to believe that you will find something noticably better elsewhere.
