What is the hole in the Sebenza 21 handle for?

I'm not talking about the lanyard hole.

Does the hole have a purpose, or is it just a byproduct of the production of the handles? It does seem to match up with the hole at the start of the cutout for the framelock.

It's for peeking through! You just have to remeber to open the knife first.

While I understand why that hole is there, I've been curious why it's just the sebenza that has it. The other knives in the portfolio don't seem to have it. I know they were developed after the sebenza, but the sebenza has also seen redesigns but the hole is still needed for it but not the others. The hole doesn't bother me, just curious.

Close.

It's an indexing hole for machining. It ensures each scale is set in the exact same place, every time, given that the hole is in correct dimension.

This is the explanation I understand to be true.

Personally, I like the Sebenza hole there. To me, it is one of the neat characteristics that makes the Sebenzas and the Regulars uniquely CRK's.

Updated processes that don't require it.
This tooling hole has been there since the beginning..but in later designs, it's gone.

Because, it wouldn't be a Sebenza 21 without the hole.

Well that's sort of what I was trying to articulate (I guess poorly). The new designs use an updated process but they kept the old process for the sebenza for some reason. The Umnumzaan and 21 came out right around the same time so that would have been an opportunity to get rid of the hole as presumably the ability was available to CRK. Again, not complaining maybe the difference between the classic and the 21 was so small it wasn't worth recreating the wheel.

Yeah..Ajack basically nailed it.
Besides, the fixtures that they use pretty much rely on that hole for now.

The real reason the hole is there is to give them someplace to mount the cabachon. ;)

Until you mentioned it.. I'd forgotten there was a hole there :/ and I've had mine since 96.

Pics..otherwise...I am thinking you are just alot of talk.

Let's see it Eric!

Most of us know it's a machining alignment hole. Also when they make the scales, they all have the holes, both on lock side and presentation side. They can grab either and mill the lockbar and camfer the edges. That way you don't have the original cutouts stating that this one is for the presentation side only and this for the lockside. They all start out the same way. It's just during future steps that they become front and back scales. It's a definite aide in the manufacturing process. Nobody nailed it like Chris Reeve....!

What are those little CRKT cross shaped bits? They look like keys for the old style Umnumzaan pivot.
