Just curious what most people are carrying. Getting ready to buy a folding knife and want to know what people consider too large or small. Thanks!

Today? About 4.5". That is my usual weekend size.
At work......always less than 4, usually closer to 3.5".
A lot of factors go into the length of your carry, including what you are doing and the laws in your area.

My edc changes so much, it's hard to give a good answer. Between 2-6 inches though I guess.

i suggest you buy one and try it out. i started with a 3 inch blade. i tried them all. long, thick, medium, small, short, thin. i prefer a 3.5-4 inch blade with a 3/4 grind or similar.

but everyone is different thats the best part. a nice place to start might be a spyderco tenacious because that line of knives is super cost effective and it comes in 2.5, 3, and 4 inch blades :) so if you like the knife but a little to big or small you could trade it for the one right for you. and its one of the best blades for around 30 dollars in my opinion

I generally carry one large and one small folder. I don't know the measurements closed. For the small, I go 1.75"-2.75" blade length. Large I go 3 3/8" and up, topping out right now at 4". I'm not worried so much about length, but more width. Today I noticed that an Endura and a pen light both clipped to my pocket make it difficult to get my phone out of my pocket

4" is the smallest I would go. 4.5"-5" is preferred. For traditional pocket knives I like anywhere between 3-4" closed.

(We usually think in terms of blade length.)

Last week I was carrying one of my largest folders, a ZT 0561. It is about 5" long closed (3.75" blade), and has a deep carry clip so that entire length is in your pocket. One of my other large EDC folders is a Benchmade 760- 4" blade and 5" closed, but it doesn't seem as large as the 561 because it is thinner.

Work and most leisure, Paramilitary 2, at 4-7/8" closed. Dressy, Delica 4 at 4-1/4" closed or smaller knife, including traditionals. Often paired with Victorinox Tinker or Super Tinker, both at about 3-5/8" closed.

Interesting to see the varying replies. I feel like 4.5"+ would be pretty large, since my iPhone in its case is about that length. And that takes up a lot of space. Though I guess keys and a knife can't take up that much room.

today i was carrying a kershaw clash. closed length of about 4 and 1/4 inches. blade is 3 and 1/8 inches.
