What is the meaning of numbers printed on the blades?

I read about it somewhere that the numbers were put on the blades for some sort of club or something?....Can't remember!

Also sometimes there'll be a number associated with the letter 'V' after the number. For example, I've seen blades with the number 156 and another with 156V, so I know the numbers can't mean their production piece. Anybody know their significance? :confused:

Spyderco have been doing this on a lot of their knives.

The number is a Spyderco Collector's Club number. The "V" indicates it is a Variation of an existing model, rather than a new model.
