What state(s) has/have the least restrictions regarding knives?

MN is pretty good- no length restrictions, I can carry anything except a switchblade. I am considering moving. there is no way I will submit to restrictive knife laws & I don't want to be a criminal in the eyes of the law. (in other words, there is no way I will move somewhere they have their heads up their arses about knives)

Thanks for your responses

I don't know, but I don't like MN switchblade laws. I'd rather have CA switchblade laws, at least they can sort of have them...

madcap_magician- I agree about the switchblades, but you can have them here, just not for carrying.

I argued that to the Security guy who confiscated mine and lost on both grounds, though I admit that carrying was stepping over the legal line. Ah, **** 'em sideways with a rusty hacksaw anyway, the bureaucratic **** wipes.

*edited some of the profanity out.

MM: That is why I made this thread, to find the states with the best (read: fewest) knife laws. I want to be able to carry a huge Bowie knife or automatic when and if I chose.

Maybe I should have asked this question in the general forum, but I figured it would just get moved anyway. Keep the responses coming

Gathered from THR, packing.org, and my own knowledge and interpretation.

Obvious disclamer: Don't take my word as the law. Check with the Police/Sherrif/Attorney General to be sure.

Alabama: Whatever you want.
Arizona: Whatever you want openly, concealed if you have a permit.
Florida: Whatever you want openly, concealed if you have a permit.
Georga: Whatever you want openly.
Idaho: Whatever you want openly, concealed if you have a permit.
Kentucky: Whatever you want openly, concealed if you have a permit.
Maryland: Whatever you want if you have a permit (?)
Mississippi: Whatever you want openly.
North Dakota: Whatever you want openly, concealed if you have a permit.
Ohio: Whatever you want openly.
Oregon: Whatever you want openly.
Rhode Island: Whatever you want openly.
South Carolina: Whatever you want.
South Dakota: Whatever you want.
Utah: Whatever you want openly.
Vermont: Whatever you want, switchblades under 3" (also the only state where you don't need a permit to carry a handgun concealed)
West Virgina: Whatever you want openly.
Wyoming: Whatever you want openly.

Note that by "whatever" I mean fixed blades, folders, autos (switchblades}, and balisongs (butterfly knives). I'm not splitting hairs over the dagger/dirk/stiletto/bowie knife BS (since these states don't either), nor am I considering ballistic knives.

Here in California, i believe there is no length limit for folders, fixed blades can't be concealed, and I think switchblades may be owned but not carried in public. pretty much I dont have a problem with whatever I choose to carry, it's better than some other places

Does "whatever you want" include fixed, bali and autos?
Also, how does "openly" translate into cold weather clothing, like parkas?

No, in alabama you're good as long as you're not carrying a concealed bowie knives. I guess the good ol boys weapon of choice down here to carry concealed or something. Other than that anything else is good in alabama.

Yeah, the "whatever you want" is basically a catch-all for fixed blades, balis, and autos, including knives of length longer than concealed carry might allow.

As for "open" vs. "concealed", this might be subjective, and might differ from state to state. Mostly I figure "open" means at least part of the knife is visible, even if it's just the pocket clip. I really can't tell you what certain situations with certain clothings might entail. You're better off asking the PD or AG.

Here in Indiana there is only one knife law according to my friend who is an ATF agent: no switchblades. Other than that yu can carry a sword for all they care.

I can tell you the worst palce for a knives and firearms enthusiast:

The People's Democratic Republic of the five boroughs. :jerkit:

Hahaha, that is almost as bad as the totalitarian government of the Smuggians (KALIFORNIUH). I told my wife I don't care how much she can make there are certain states that are off-limits. Particularly the ones with no good carpet bagging senators. Oh well I guess Ms. Clinton went north not south but same idea.

Texas isn't too bad with a 5.5" limit, fixed or folder, open or concealed carry. The thing that sucks is no carrying balisongs or switchblades or double edged blades.
