Hi everyone.

I took some pictures of a blade model at a store in Tokyo, but I can't seem to find the name or additional information about it.

I believe it is a custom blade (with a corresponding fighting/draw style), but I was hoping someone here had more information. Usually the index finger goes through the largest hole at the opposite end of the blade.

Thanks!

That is a karambit, no two ways about it. It's now the "new" self defense knife as lots of companies are pushing it. However there are mixed feelings about the design to say the least. That site should be good for history and what not, but be on the look out for a lot of hype.
Oh, and welcome to BladeForums.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Mostly I am using this information in a review about a clothing store in Japan that sells necklaces that have the kerambit design.

Thanks again.

What store in Japan is this? Please tell me it's that one awesome place in Kyoto! ...That's not specific at all.

Looks like one of Steve Tarani's control devices (not quite a Karambit, but close).
more infos here

Would it be proper to call it a Tarani style Karambit? Or a Tarani control device? They look basically the same to me, but I am in no way an expert.

Thanks.

Chris, if you go to the link above http://www.karambit.com/ and move to Products, you'll get a menu that includes Control Device. Basically, it is an unsharpened karambit, which is used as a pressure point/impact device, a non-lethal fighting tool.

Ok, then I should probably consider the jewelry being modeled after a Karambit because the model they had in the store was sharp. The necklace itself was unsharpened, but was too small to use as a real control device.

Thanks.
