What is the right size for a neck knife?

The title says it all. Both bladelength and OA length and maybe even weight?

To me the neck knife should have a large enough handle to be grasped securely and pulled easily. Should have a resonable bladelength to do some "honest" work, but the overall package shouldn't be a block of concrete around the neck. So what is the ideal trade-off to you? Examples are welcome!

I use a UTX-70 in a Survival Sheath Systems neck rig.

My overall favorite neck knife is the Becker Necker. I also have the Spyderco SPOT and SOG neck knives which are smaller but very useful. I don't think you can find a better neck knife for the price of the Becker, around $35.

My neck knife is huge. It is the Cold Steel Desperado. I think it is perfect. I used paracord to loop it around my neck and left sholder so that the knife hangs under my left arm. I only carry it at night or while house-sitting. But it's easy to get out. Easy to hold on to. And the fact that it is scarry as hell isn't a bad thing either. It's a 5" blade and I sharpened the false edge, too.

It depends on whether you wear a bra that lifts and separates or one of those push together maximiser types. :D

I have a Becker Necker as well. I looked at the CRKT/Carson F4, and felt that it was a bit on the small side for what I wanted it for. When I first got the Becker, I felt that the handle was small, but otherwise could handle some pretty heavy use. In thinking about this, though, if the handle were maybe about 1/2 inch to an inch larger, it would almost be too big. A lanyard helped. Haven't tried any of the others. Again, I guess it depends on what you will be using it for :) I usually have it around my neck on weekends when I'm puttering around in the yard and attached to the inside of my daypack during the week.

A good test is to get some cord and tie weights around your neck to see how many ounces is bearable. Then, go find a knife you like that is a similar weight. Your first purchase would work for you, rather than have to sell it and get another.

Another vote for the Becker. Since I got it I use it more than just about anyother fixed blade that I own. For day hikes/overnighter's I just take the necker, a SAK Huntsman, and a gerber gator axe and I am set.

Maybe wearing a neck knife will make me more sympathetic to women with a very high center of gravity.... ;)

I was looking at TT and medium TT by Atwood and was wondering if they are too small.... I had though about something in the 6 in OA length but now I am wondering if that is too large...I mean it should be a neck knife not a nabel knife :).

I wear my Bud Nealy small Pesh Kabz around my neck almost every day. No one has ever spotted it. If someone sees the chain I jsut say it's my dog tags. Great knife.

There's a good idea :D
Also, for me, a blade length of 3" and OAL of 7-7 1/2" are the max
