I am speaking in regards to outdoors, hiking, hunting, etc...

For me the BK2 is a match made in heaven, so much so that I have offed my Busse's, sent the HI's to bed and retired everything else save my Cold Steel Gurkha Kuk in Carbon V.

I don't see much need for a neck knife, in California they are more or less illegal to carry and in the field, the BK2 can handle 90% of everything very well or better.

Why would a 3 inch fixed blade knife be illegal in CA? I carry my BK14 everywhere and would not hesitate to rely on it in a survival situation.

It's all illegal in california. Can't have the slaves carrying anything to defend themselves with.

CA - don't get me started on despots...

As to the OP - I like my BK-11 and carry it tons. I'd carry a Becker folder if one was made. :D

I've headed out with just my BK14 on dayhikes (like today), feeling I got enough knife to do what I need to do. I can do alot with my ESKabar, bow drills shelter, carving, and really, if I couldn't have anything but a knife to go from the woods to the boardroom, I would pick my ESKabar. I have to agree with you though, the BK2 is my "The Knife" for the woods, mainly because I can't EDC it, it gets left in the pack most days. My BK14, carries major weight throughout the day. Serious, mind blowing weight. I started using my BK2 everytime I hit the woods, and found I lacked experience with my larger and smaller knives. So, I kinda put the Campanion on the back burner, and started with my BK9, using it from wood prep to food prep. Then it was my BK14's turn. I have learned very much in what a BK14/BK11 can do, and I have to tell you, its a surpise what that little knife can do. Next contest I run will be about the BK14, and the many things it can be used for.

I really like the 11 for an EDC. I used it to skin a buck this year and it was plenty of knife, held a great edge and was more than stout enough to baton through the pelvis and split the sternum open.

bk-2 hands down. it's not the thickness or the length per se, it's all about ergonomics. i can deal with a becker handle and a 4" blade no problem but a becker necker handle with an 18" blade on the end? almost useless for me...can't really do anything worthwhile if i can't even hold the knife for any length of time.

...with that said, i sure am hoping for the day lightsabers replace these crappy woods tools we call knives :D

Baildoc, it's illegal to conceal a fixed blade knife in Ca.

As to the smallest I'd carry? Necker as it's the smallest Becker I have. I want to replace it with a 14 though as the necker handle doesn't really work for me

The 14 as I have a firesteel zip tied to it. A quick slip on unit that can help me to survive in a surprise situation in the outdoors. I can't walk around town with a bk-2 on my hip, but the Eskabar and firesteel lay flat under any jacket.

The more I see and read about the Eskabar the more I like it. Seems to be more than the compromise design I thought it to be and more of a kick ass little user. I think I'll pick one up.

The BK2 though, it just feels so right, like a little slice of do-it-all heaven.

The 14 is an awesome knife. I EDC mine on my belt. The other day at work I needed a notch cut into a fiberglass mop handle so I could use it as a temporary prop to hold a machine door closed(just long enough to get the plant back running). I batoned the notch out using my EsKabar with an adjustable wrench for a baton. Dulled the the edge and the metal wrench left some marks on the back of the blade but she got the job done. Sharpened her back up and she is as good as new.

Ah kilt a grizzle bar with mah Eskaybar............. Got to remember to take my pills. :D
