What is the smallest, lightest Vic with a saw?

I have taken a liking to wearing a neck lanyard with a few essentials (SAK, Photon, car key, etc) when camping or woods walking with my family. I find this very convenient. Of course, the lighter the better for anything hanging around your neck. I would like to include a Victorinox with a saw on the lanyard for general use and for all the rustic woodworking projects the kids come up with, but I would like it to be as small and as lightweight as possible. I realize that a shorter saw may be less efficient than a longer one, but I am willing to make that tradeoff for less weight. I have a Vic Rucksack with a saw, but this is too big. Other tools on the SAK are of secondary concern. So, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

Either a Lumberjack or a "My First Victorinox Plus” (same knife with a round blade tip…easier to find in the USA).

I say its the Vic hiker or camper. They're three layer 91mm. The hiker has a back mounted phillips where the camper has the corkscrew.

Thank you all for the excellent suggestions. The tool selector is great and the specific models recommended are pretty much exactly what I had in mind. Now to buy one...:)

I'll put a plug in for the Hiker, I just picked one up at Target on clearance for $6.24 (packaged with a Compass).

Chart,

Your idea for an 'around the neck' survival kit is a good one. Do you know about the Ranger Rick commercial PSK that's availalble?

MG,

Thanks, yes I have seen it. It looks good. I am thinking about getting one. So far I have put together my own small kit that is perhaps not a full fledged (even for a neck lanyard) survival kit, but the SAK, Photon, and whistle it always carries are great to always have handy outdoors. I find that I even use the whistle pretty frequently, for example, to get the kids' attention to wave them back in when they are getting too far out in the water.

I made up similar sets for the kids, too. They love them and in addition to their SAKs, flashlights, and whistles also hang all sorts of other things such as name tags, bottle openers, and any other thing that cathes their fancy. At first the lanyard was paracord, but it always worried me that entanglement could be dangerous, especially for the kids. Now I use these safety lanyards that I like a lot.

Hey Mr. Moose -

I just picked up that same deal at Target a few weeks ago, but I paid $12.49, which was on clearance for 50% off. Sounds like they're now at 75% off. Might have to pick up another!

How do they work under dress shirts? Any idea?

Cardimon,

I have never worn mine under a dress shirt, but my guess is that they would be okay as long as the shirt was not too snug. The rubber piece that forms the loop at the bottom is probably the part most likely to offend. At the top it is just over 3/8" thick and it tapers down to 1/4" thick at the bottom. I have reduced the size of the entire outfit somewhat by using these small stainless steel spring clips rather than one of the non-climbing accessory carabiners to clip gear. With these I can still easily pull the SAK, etc. off the lanyard for use. It works pretty well.
