What is the steel in a Glock Anti-Terrorist Knife?

Does this knife have a good/bad/otherwise reputation?

I have one, in black, with the saw back. I sharpened it, yeah, but I didn't go all-out to make it a razor or nuthin'... It just didn't seem like that blade was made of the all-fired best steel... Exactly what kind of steel is it made of?

What is the general thinking on the quality of this knife? I mean, I know it's a mass-produced thing for a military application, but I have never seen discussion about it, and so I don't know how it is thought of in knife circles. Is it good at what it's made for? Has anyone here taken the time and effort to really sharpen one up and see how it does?

I understand the Glock knives are run at a fairly low hardness, so they arent likely to hold an edge too long. I havent ever heard of a model called an "anti-terrorist knife" Sounds like something Dark Ops might produce.

I've never heard of this knife either. A Yahoo search and looking at several knife dealers produced no useful results. As far as Glock knives go, the only one I'm familiar with is the Glock Field Knife. I think this is the one that's actually produced for military use.

As Rat suggested, it could be CTV2. ;)

I have the field knife, and it kicks rocks! It's a great thrower, and I don't know how many times I have used that bottle opener.
The edge retention is so-so, but I can get it pretty damn sharp pretty quick!

Well, with a name like that, and a bottle opener built in.... It sounds as though it makes the wielder pretty invincible, don't you think???

I wonder if it detects turbans, or leaps fiercely out of reach of people who don't blindly follow mass media hype... :barf:

Seriously, though... Who would bestow such a ridiculous name upon a product that wasn't designed for the mall ninja? I'd wager that someone in the military (actually in a position to fight "terrorists") would not waste their time with such a gimmick. If I could find any info about it anywhere, I might actually have something to say about the knife as a product, or its merits as a tool... but as it stands, and since there don't seem to be very many sources of info (if any), it seems kinda ridiculous.

Peace.

I honestly don't think it exists. It's not on the Glock website.

I think a fixed blade with no corkscrew is worthless. But I still can't figure where to put the corkscrew.

I cant believe GLOCK wouldn't make a really good knife - seeing as how great their pistols are.
Guess they should stick with firearms and leave the knives to BM :D

Where'd the whole corkscrew idea come from?

The bottle opener is part of the handguard...have a look...

Oh, and I'm not trying to spam for specshop...it's just a decent image I found on google (the images on the glock website were a little too small to see the details)

I could be wrong, but I think peacefuljeffrey was just taking a little artistic license with the name of the knife. I believe it is officially known as the Glock Field Knife. I think it's interesting that some European combat knives are designed with throwing in mind. I'm gonna have to get me one of those, and try it out.

Yeah, this was recommended to me as a good camp knife that I can throw. I'm going to buy one for my next trip.

Okay, okay, I'm takin' a beating for the name I thought I knew this knife went by... I don't know, I coulda sworn I had seen it called that in a catalog or something! :foot:

Anyway, I have the Glock... er... Field Knife... and I am still wondering what steel it is made from. Any help?

Maybe you could email either the retailer where you got it or Glock themselves and ask? SOMEBODY has to know what it is.

On a lighter note, with the bottle opener, is it there so when you deploy the knife to deanimate your next beer the natives will be prevented from starting a bar fight in their "third world locale" by the "intimidating blade length?"

I'm sorry, I just couldn't help myself  :p .

I dont know, but hey, it has a built in bottle opener.

So even if the knife doesn't prevent terrorism atleast you can open up a cold one and drink your troubles away.

There's a reason for everything. :D

Back to the original question:

peacefuljeffrey,

The Glock knife is made from some kind of good carbon steel, maybe someting like 1095 or similar. It is rather soft but tough. I have an old Glock catalog, which says it's hardness is between 50 and 55 HRC.

I'll just say that any maker of knives who purposely keeps the blade steel type a secret from the public is immediately suspect as a potential POS. The design, however, is nice & simple.

That knife was indeed called the Anti-Terrorist Knife some years ago. It wouldn't surprise me if they changed the name after 9/11.
