What is the trick to sharpening a Commander

I have followed the directions on the EKI site and i have been able to sharpen it however not to my satisfaction, or back to a factory sharp ( razor) edge. I can not get this thing scary sharp. Being it is made for self defense and not letter opening how can i get it Sharp ( scary sharp)

have you tried stropping? everyone has their own opinion on how to sharpen and mine is to use a guide rod sharpener so the degree of the bevel stays the same along the whole edge (I have the edge pro apex) to whatever grit you like and finish with a stropper. I was completly clueless about sharpening untill I got the apex and now sharpening is fun. I get a razor's edge every time. But with any other method I've tried in the past I sucked.

did ya use cardboard to remove the burr?? sometimes a round steel works better on commanders, just lightly steel to remove the burr.

its not easy to get commanders to shave hair really well, not easy not impossible.

i suppose an apex would work also,

Yup, set the edge, and then steel it. Good call.

Grab a ceramic rod or DMT ice pick style sharpener and work over the bevel and lightly deburr on the opposite side (creating a VERY tiny microbevel)
