I was viewing a french knife site and found the following description of a basque knife, "Folding pocket knife Regional Basque, Le Txino, a Christophe Lauduique creation, system opening 2 nails, told the cab." Can anyone translate this into english for me? thanks !

Judging by the lack of nail nicks, thumbs studs, or what have you, I would say this is a bit of dry humor.

To open the knife, you grip the back of the blade with the fingernails of your thumb and index finger, and pull it open against the spring tension.

In short: opening system, two nails.

Do you have the original French description? We might be able to get a better translation.

Since this will be a traditional knife, I moved it to that forum.

Howdy,
I found the page and looked at the knife.
I think they meant "two fingers" or "thumb and finger". There are no nail nicks by which to open the knife and there is no other opening mechanism.

Computer translations are often suspect.
Here is the description en Francais
basque, Le Nivelle, une création Christophe Lauduique, système ouverture à 2 clous, dit à la capucine. Longueur : ouvert 170 mm, lame 75 mm.

The simplest knife only has one "nail". On a two "nail" knife like capucin, the second "nail" stops the heel of the blade.
