What is the usual release time for limited run knives?

I pre-ordered the 40th anniversary native all the way back in December from knife center and the expected release date was sometime in June and now we are getting through July. Does anyone have any info on this knife and the other fluted carbon-fiber knife they're releasing or just generally when their sprint runs are released or how close they usually are to their expected release date?

Some arrive before anyone even knows they're coming. Some arrive a month or three early. A few arrive "on schedule". Most arrive a few months late. A few have been much, much, later. Worst case, a year or more. The original ZDP-189 Delica Sprint was scheduled to use the Delica 3 handle, but was so late that it wound up coming out as a Delica 4.

That's very interesting. I would hope they would get the 40th anniversary knife in the correct year as that is the whole point of the celebration, but we will have to wait and see. I knew that the June date was just an estimate and I am fine waiting. I just wish there was a little information or an update on what portion is slowing them down or what challenges they are facing.

Nobody ever admits to knowing anything about when they are going to arrive. I have enough faith in the people running Spyderco that I don't accept that. I think Spyderco knows but they aren't telling. The distributors and dealers may or may not know, but if they know they don't admit to much. We do know that it frequently takes a very long time from when the order is placed. If it is something that Spyderco is planning themselves it may also take a long time to produce but they might have started a long time ago before it was ever announced to the public.

There were hints about a year ago of another limited model from a retailer but absolutely not a breath of it since. In that case they might stay quiet until the knives are ready to be shipped then quickly put it up on their website. Or maybe they didn't follow up with the order, we would never know.
