Hi

I'm new to the blade forum, and new to actually collecting knives.
Those damn Spyderco's got me started and I have to admit they are still my favorite because of their quality and affordability.
However I recently bought two Emerson CQC7's. I really like them and plan on getting a Commander soon, and maybe a custom some day.
I have been enjoying the Blade Forums, especially the Spyderco and Emerson forums. I soak up all the info I can but I will be asking alot of FNG questions.
Here is my first one:
What exactly is "The usual suspect"???

Mike

:D

Those around here (and the SEARCH function) could do a much better job than I could in explaining it, but if you have a passion for things sharp named Emerson and appreciate the genre of the following, then you are well on your way to becoming a Usual Suspect.

I'm not pulling your chain here, use the search function and you will find far more eloquent, and informative, responses than mine. Hopefully you get the idea. ;)

Nimrod pretty much nailed it -

In the absence of John Hollister, here's some info. from `The Emerson Gallery':

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Emerson Gallery:
"Usual Suspect" - Term coined by Les Robertson in 01/99. A person that frequents and participates in the Emerson Forum on BF.com. In fact it should be considered synonymous with "Frequent Participant". Custom ownership is not required, just enthusiasm for the products.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, there is the Goat's Blood ritual as administered by the two `Don's of the Emerson Forum'.

Thanks for the replies!!

The answer is what I suspected, and that means I'm well on my way towards being a ususal suspect. I am glad however that it specified that ownership of a custom Emerson is not required.

Nimrod - I must admit that I never thought of using a search for references, and I am fairly computer literate.......really.

Mike

Welcome to the forums. Just about any info you could want is in here somewhere, either in type, or in experience. Enjoy, and don't forget to check out the 'Emerson Gallery' thread.:)

DJ Wolf, the Unusual Suspect.

"The Usual Suspects" are okay

Mike V:

Firstly, welcome to the EKI Forums! As a relative Newbie myself, I can assure you that this is a great bunch to hang around. You'll definitely learn a lot from these guys, (not just about EKI knives)
;)

I would also strongly suggest checking out the TAC Chat room which is frequently visited by many of the 'Senior Suspects'

Aspiring 'Suspect'....:)

HOWDIE! I just browz here once and awhile myself. Here are (2)two more examples of what a usual suspect is:

1.Lets say there is a custom knife for sale, and you want to buy it. Just when you are about to buy it someone snatches it up. You suspect a few people who probably bought it. Those are the usual suspects.

2.Its also the personification of a disease.

Mike, Welcome!

Everyone beat me to the punch here. :D

If you have a question, please feel free to jump and ask. Everyone here (with the possible exception of "Don Rearic" aka "The Evil one") is friendly and always willing to help a brother out.

Look at it this way, if you have a question, there are probably ten other people lurking that have the exact same question, you'd be helping them out.

As to item's of interest here. They have already mentioned the Emerson Gallery. This is a little (cough-cough), on going project that Don Deckert (Sniper308) and I have going. However, let me give credit where credit is due. The Gallery is a group effort. Without the contributions and help from the rest of the "Suspects", the Gallery wouldn't be the Reference Library it is today.

Next would be the regular scheduled Chats that we have. Eric "The Man" Blair, our resident "Rancher/Snake Killer/Computer Whiz/General Jack of all trades" has set up a simple to use (for us simple folk) Chat room. There is usually a mess of folks in there talking about Harleys, Martial Arts, Guns, Knives, ect, ect. Occasionally the topic turns to Emersons. :D

We meet there on Wednesday nights and Saturday nights, 2100 hrs (9pm) Eastern Standard Time.

or here

Either will get you to the same room. When you log in, use your name from the forums so everyone can figure out who you are. Please join us.

Yeah, Well, Ok, So I've Been Just A Little Lax Lately On Updating The Current Numbers.

Last time I logged into the Gallery I could'nt get logged out and was known as "Emerson Gallery" for about a week!

I've got a current list of who owns which Emerson Customs if you've posted and made mention of a acquisition or posted a photo of a knife you've received.

If you've gotten any Emerson Customs in the past month and haven't posted the information please e-mail me at ddeckert@kscable.com and I'll get the list updated this week. I especially need information on knives that came from the Guild Show. (These things went everywhere fast!)

Sorry John:( ...I was in too much of a hurry with the cut and paste. Just shows that I've got a lot of work to do to become a Suspect.

The town of Hollister, Calif. Sits astride a major seismic fault line.It shakes and rolls quite often. It's famous for for buckled sidewalks, streets that veer about. And, it's a mecca for second-honeymooners --'Cause the earth really does move.

If Hollister ever were to visit Hollister; now... that would be a seismic event.
