The wave is a little hook type pretrusion on the upper edge of the blade that catches on the pocket of your pants and opens the knife while you are pulling out of your pocket. You do have to have a certain technique (draw the knife out towards the back edge of your pocket and allow the wave to catch) for it to work.
The AXIS lock is a a type of lock to keep the blade from closing while you use it. I have one on a Benchmade, but honestly dont know the mechanics of it. I know it feels much more solid than the liner lock knives I've used.
