What is the way to use a Chakma on my khukuri?

Run it down across the edge at the angle the edge is ground at or slightly higher. There is no need for a lot of pressure.

So I would hold the blade with edge facing away from me, then run the chakma by placing it flat on the edge of the khukuri blade and pushing it?

"Chakma" is an old Nepali word meaning "He who has not yet bought a Spyderco Profile."

If you have a khukri, you need a Profile. It can get into areas few other sharpening stones can get to, but is also more versatile, given it's cross-section than any round sharpener.

I`m not sure that it matters. Steeling is usually done toward the edge.
Bill, do you remember the lost 18th. Cent.,( with the wood scarard), karda from the exhibit last year? Or, was it the year before? Well, they found it! It`s a wee one, and not secure.

Please post a picture...it'd help so much, thanks

I do remember, FNG.

I'll try to get a couple of pix tomorrow if I can find time. Got checkup at cardiologist and start rehab, too, so may have to be this weekend. If anybody else wants to volunteer you have my complete blessings.

Kmark :

Yes, the steels that are used the opposite way, into the edge, are generally grooved and will remove the rolled metal instead of aligning it out straight again. This is why Chef's knives become fillet blades after heavy steeling on a butchers steel.

I was doing it the wrong way...moving the chakma into the edge instead of outwards. Thanks for the advice!
