What is this? - 3 metal spikes on Emerson folder - Now with pic

Newbie here. I received a previously owned Emerson HD-7 that has what may be an aftermarket mod on the heel of the grip. There are three short (1-2mm) metal spikes on the insert between the side plates on the heel of the grip. Glass breaker? Self defense mod? Anybody know what this is? I'd include a pic, but can't figure out how. I'd put it in as an avatar, but can't figure how to do that either. Thanks!
