I'm trying to see if there's any good alternatives to the Sypderco Techno; I like the way this looks but have no idea what it is.

Aye, as previously mentioned, that is a Grayman DUA, with DLC coating. You can find them occasionally on the exchange for typically under $350. S30V steel, Ti framelock, and, by all accounts, very tight tolerances and smooth pivot action. A lot of people consider them to be direct competitors to Sebenzas due to the price, materials, and tolerances.

(Honestly, I can't see shelling out $300+ for S30V/S35VN, but I seem to be in the minority with that opinion what with all the $500+ S35VN Hinderers and $300+ S30V/S35VN Striders and Sebenzas changing hands like crazy every day.)

thanks for the help, everyone. if any one has any other recommendations like the boker albatross, it would be much appreciated.

The albatros really is a pretty good knife man, if its not your style I get it but don't be thrown off by the VG-10, it's actually a pretty dang good steel and the knife is IMO one of the best in their Boker plus line. I have no need/want for such a knife but of I was in the market for one its what I would go with, easily beating out the techno.

the thing i have against the techno and albatross is that theyre made in china. i know that sypderco's taichung factory is great, but id just prefer made in usa. the benchmade 755 is tempting, but heard its not as smooth as the techno

Tai Chung is in Taiwan, not China. There's a difference.

And compared to the Techno the MPR is a monster.

Only in the handle. For the amount of blade that you get, the Techno is pretty impressive. I think the cutting edges were about equivalent in length (I haven't seen my 755s for awhile) but the 755 has a much better grind for actually cutting things, and M390 has a bit of an edge (pun unintended) in edge retention. XHP is sweet to sharpen, though, with little resistance and high ease of shaping.

In terms of smoothness, the 755 is probably a little better. The blade opens well, the lock action is light yet precise, and the G10 provides great traction. However, the clip placement is awful (which also extends to the 7505), the bead blast screams to be babied, and the fat handles are a pain to EDC.

There is indeed a difference between Taiwan and China. For one thing, Taiwan production is more consistent and to a slightly higher finish than Golden, and certainly far above the Byrds and Resilience/Tenacious. Another point, it's not on the mainland. They aren't even spelled the same!
