What is this "bracket" on the 867/868 Buck collector knife tin?

I need to make use of the collective wisdom of the forum. What is this depicted on this tin?

I've never seen that tin. Those models, 867/868 must be rare.

867 and 868. They are called the Baseline. Buck has used that tin in another combo with 325 and 327 knives. I just want to know what it is a picture of.

Oh yes, sorry I edited my post the same time you were replying. It looks like both sets were from the 2014-2015 time period. In your thread from a few months ago you said you needed 13 sets to complete the collection. How's that coming and did you fish the recent 867/868 set from the bay?

The photo seems to show a metal plate held on by allen screws. Or another possibility is it's an image of an antique tin with feet. A tin on a tin if you will.

Others interested in the tin sets can read your excellent discussion here:

Looks like a metal plate that would contain model and serial number info normally found on machinery or equipment, secured with rivets.

I found many more combos that exist and also acquired many more. I need about 26 now. That will no doubt change as I find new ones. I plan on publishing an update, with pictures of the ones I have and the ones I am missing, in about a month or so.

Yes, that is what I thought it might be but since I am not an outdoorsman, I wanted to make sure it isn't some obvious thing that outdoormen would immediately know.

They might be rare but those tins often contain one-off designs commisioned by places like Walmart, Cabelas, Menards, Big5Sports, Tractor Supply, etc. They are cheap Chinese knives that most collectors are not that interested in.

Having said that, they still are guaranteed by Buck.

It looks like it was edited (Photoshopped) to put the buck emblem onto some old tin. The Buck emblem stands out more than the gray tin.
