Hi,

This is my first post, I found the sight while searching for knife info.

I have a CR Tanto that I bought in the 80's I think it is from the first batch made. I got it directly from CR in South Africa before he moved to the States.

After looking at the posts and seeing all the interest in CR knives I wonder if someone could tell me what this is worth now.

I hope the pics work as this is my first try uploading.

Many Thanks
Barry

Baz555,
Welcome to the forums!

I can't help you with the knives value, but it sure is a beauty!

being that it is south african and has the hex head im gonna go with 300-400 dollars but im just looking at the fact it is still in production(or a variant of) and that it is basically the same knife.

wait a sec and there will be a better educated forumite here shortly

Thanks guys,

Sorry it took so long for me to respond but weekend and different time zones.

Regards,
Barry

Hello Baz, can you tell me if you have the original box and birthday card. Also looking at the pic's you have showed us, is it a Tanto I (9") model or the discontinued Tanto II (7") model ? It can be better estimated with more information.

Thanks,

Jules

Also....it's a very sweeeet knife:thumbup:

Hi Jules,

The blade is 7", total length 12" so I guess it must be a Tanto II

It did not come with a box just an single sheet letter from CR with the makers info, I have it lying around somewhere.

Thanks,
Baz

Barry, that's what I thought it was a 7"/ Tanto II....very sweet indeed!
I would estimate the value around the same as to Langston302's estimate , between $300.00 - $400.00 . Now if it was "dead mint" or pristine, up the value to $550.00 to $600.00. One for being S.African with papers and Two for being discontinued. If you were to sell it to a person in desperate need of one for finishing there CRK Tanto collection, you will probably get top dollar

Either way it's a definite eye opener...not to many of those floating around in the open market today.

Hope I was some help! and my estimations are only my opinions .

best regards,

Jules

Wow, I just had one of these given to me by my "adopted uncle" today. I did not realize it was this rare and valuable. The only difference between mine and the one shown, is that mine has the number '70' on the blade next to the CR logo. Mine is the 7" model (Tanto II), it just looks longer in the pictures, with the way I took them.

Great, mine is No. 78 so that must make them cousins at least.

BTW I think there is a promlem with photobucket.com as I can't connect.

Barry

Haha, yeah, I suppose they'd be cousins then. What is that number anyways? A manufacturing number, or what?
