Just got a special edition 2020 hr2 to pair with my user hr2. Wondering what the finish is on the special edition. Is it bead blasted?? Thansk!

The Special Edition (with the laser engraving) was the only time the HR2 was offered with the BIG DC finish. That stands for Busse Industrial Grade, Double Cut. It is indeed a two-stage bead blasted finish.

Okay. So it is a little more valuable I'm guessing? New to busse in general. Bought my hr2 last year and absolutely LOVE infi. Figured I'd buy a back up.

My last question is the BIG DC valuable enough that I should put it in a safe instead of use it? I know a comp hr2 is just under $500 from busse right now before Shipping.

There are very few Busse blades that will increase in value exponentially. It's a bead blasted finish. It's not something unique like a limited edition patterned Cerakote.

Perfect. So she can be a user without me regretting it later. Thanks!

The BIG DC finish by itself isn't a rare finish. It has been an available option with most recent offerings. As Toker said, it isn't an extra pricy finish like custom Cerakote. It is normally priced between coated blade and comp finish. However, the HR2 was only offered in BIG DC during that one run, so it may increase a collector's valuation due to short supply.

It's a nice finish, doesn't show wear as much as satin, and more uniform/smooth than the comp finish (but not as slick, if that makes sense). It's a very good user finish. Some say the micro texture of the blasted finish may harbor moisture more easily compare to satin, but I think it's a minimal difference unless you live in a very high humidity and/or salty environment (Florida, for example) that is condusive to corrosion.

The SE laser marking may make it more desirable to some, but that all depends on demand.

Well, it came with both the sheaths pictured for a decent price. I could probably sell it with the dan brown sheath, keep the leather sheath, and make money. But I kinda like the idea of having a back up/spare hr2.

Those David Brown canvas mutant sheaths are niiiice. But different strokes for different blokes.
There's a good reason I have a few HR2s on stand by... It's a very nice design. Just like I have a few RMDs, TGULBs, FMs, JH-10s, F-16s... to name a few 😅

The sickness/addiction is real.

I need to get my hands on a f16...... but, I am comparing the dan brown to a sheath a buddy made for my hr2
And I am not entirely sold on the canvas outside I like the tech lock, and the strap for scout carry. I'll be showing it to my buddy so he can get some ideas for the next sheath I have him make for me.

who is Dan Brown ?

Not sold on the Canvas ?
Well as was said above different strokes for different folks.
The canvas is more an artistic thing than a function feature.
Although it does make the kydex a bit quieter :)

Just a personal thing. Sorry. Working night shifts has me making mistakes David.

I am looking at the canvas and thinking about the next time I butcher a pig/goat/steer/Caribou/moose that canvas would be a pain to get clean. One reason I like plain kydex over leather. Just toss the sheath in warm soapy water call it good.
But the tek lock, and the snap strap I am very much a fan of
I have to admit I like that leather dangler more then I thought I would. Maybe enough to deal with how much a pain leather is to clean in comparison. Maybe.

Been talking to John Roberts allot about kydex pro/con lately.

If you wanna re-home the canvas mutant, just let me know!

No worries at all.

Just a FYI, that canvas and epoxy I use are really easy to clean and it holds up to water really well.
one of my personal sheaths I have soaked for a few days in water over and over and has not loosened a bit.
(I was trying to get a red dye job to work right)

The cool thing about my Custom sheaths is I can make them as custom as you would like (ask Imcq784 ;) ).

I do not know John Roberts ?
