What is this knife and is it a real Benchmade?!

Hey all, my friend has this old Benchmade Knife. It has the 525 number on it, which is now used for Presidios. My question is if this is a really old one, or perhaps just an old model that they re-used the numbers for, or if this is possibly a fake. I can't find info on it and the build quality seems less than the Benchmades I am familiar with. Could be that it is used and old, hence it seeming lower in quality.

I also noticed that the Liner lock tends to fully extend and hit the opposing scale, as seen in one of the pictures. It still has a solid lock-up, but that's pretty far. Any chance Benchmade can work on that sort of problem?

In any case, I would love it if anyone has some info on this! It's a pretty neat design all around.

I am by no means a BM expert but it doesnt look like any real BM I have ever seen. Looks fake.

That is absolutely a fake, that looks like no design Benchmade has ever released. The 525 on the blade would signify a Mini-Presidio and that looks nothing like the Presidio series.

One of the worst and laziest fakes I've ever seen, they didn't even attempt to replicate an actual Benchmade design. They just took a random black knife, slapped the Butterfly logo on it and said bam done. LOL

Benchmade does not reuse model numbers. That is your #1 clue.

That would be a counterfeit. We would not be able to do any sort of servicing for that particular knife. Sorry!

Thank you all for replying, including Benchmade! Yeah, it seemed like a horrible, cheap knife, so I thought I'd ask.

At least my friend found it, so it's not like he spent money on it! haha

Probably one of the ugliest fakes ever seen from a while.
But the cat paw is wonderful!
