My grandfather found this some years ago, does anybody have an idea what it is? I think it could be a Buck from the general shape and look, but I can't find anything about a "Ranger" model in a Stockman pattern. (I got the "Ranger" from the main blade, I don't know if that can be made out or not).

Edited to revise pic size............doh!!!

Wow quick reply, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how old it may be? The new ones look like thay have a different shield and scales.

actually I do not think it is a texas ranger knife. If you notice in the picture the shield is oval, not round as in the texas ranger pic. I could be wrong, but I think it is similar to a "ranger" marked knife my dad use to have that was, I believe made by colonial years ago. It was also stamped "ranger" on the tang. I could be altogether wrong, but it does strongly resemble my dads old knife. My dad is in his 70's and I remember the knife from years ago.

If I were you I would post it on levines forum, Im sure he can help.

I agree that this is a Ranger produced by Colonial Knife Co. of Providence RI. It looks to be a three blade stockman with the main blade broken off. Ranger/Colonial knives do not bring a very high price even in mint condition. In this condition, this knife would be practically valueless.

Colonial Knife Co. was still producing knives a couple of years ago, but I don't know what has happened to them since.

Edited for spelling.

Keith,
I dont think colonial produces them anymore, I could be wrong though. I remember when they went for about $4.99 !!!

I believe you are right, I think it is a older version of this with the 2nd blade broken off and the prinary blade ground down, I imagine after being broken. I didn't think it had much value other than being able to say my grandad had found it years ago, but you never know.
Thanks
