I'm doing a trade and the other party has this sng. Not sure if the lbs is stock or what.

Also, is there any way to tell which gen this is?

Thanks

Anything else you can tell me would be great, please no politics.

Looks like a radius Gray Precision, never seen anyone use a Phillips head screw with one though

I've got a Pete Gray LBS and he sent it with a torx screw. I've never seen a phillips head like that used.

It's kind of hard to see the lock face which would say if it's the latest generation. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1369924325.820740.jpg
Something like this would be better. This is the new lock up.

Ahhh okay. I don't have the knife in hand yet so I can't take pics of the lock up. I've done some searching and can't find a good run down on the differences between gens.

I trust the other party as he's decided to ship first. Our communication thus far has been the best I've ever had too.

I'm not too concerned with which generation it is so long as it's sound.

I do find the lbs screw curious though. I saw a Strider in a thread that was legit, and it looked very much like it had a Phillips head screw, but I believe the author said that it just appeared that way in the photo. The one in the knife above looks, pretty clearly, to be Phillips.

Everything else (that you can see) looks good though right?

The latest generation has a linear cut lock face rather than the older style which was cut at a radius...and as others have said, I've never seen a Phillips screwed used before to hold the Hinderer Lock Bar Stabilizer in place.
Best of luck!

It could be that the screw was replaced with a P.H. screw of the same thread and length. (I always think the glass is half full :o ) If it was new to him, just ask him about it. If the deal is right, one screw should not ruin it.

Blessings,

Omar

Thanks Omar, I guess maybe I'm a "glass 3/4 full" kind of guy because the thought that it might be a deal breaker hadn't even occurred to me. :o

I emailed the current owner. ;)

Yeah, I doubt that the screw is stock. The old-style lockup has a tang that almost resembles a half-moon, although not to that extent. I have NOT had either lock-style exhibit any stickiness unless the blade was snapped open...old lock.

Question: will Strider honor their warranty if the lbs has been changed? I doubt I'd ever need the warranty, but it's nice to know it's there should the truly terrible ever happen. Especially since it's supposed to be one of the best in the biz. I mean, you are certainly paying for it.

Oh, and thank you guys so much for the help thus far. Truly excellent as always.

I also want to go on record as saying that I have no concerns about the validity of the other party's word or honesty or anything like that. He has gone above and beyond the norm to inspire confidence in working with him on the deal. ;)
