I picked this guy up at a garage sale last summer. OAL is just over 10", blade is 2 1/8" worked really well for deer processing last fall. Seems to hold a good edge. Blade says master hunter No.110. Sheath is brown leather with nickel rivets and says master hunter on top flap. Sorry for the crappy scanned pics but camera is MIA at the moment.

The handle seems to be probably hickory or some hardwood with a cheap varnish on it that is kind of cracking. I love this hatchet for on the belt in hunting season and I think it will be in the quad and sled tool boxes when required. I paid $3 for it.

Offhand, it looks like Vaughan's little sportsman's axe, sold sometimes as a tree-sounding axe. The poll might be longer though.
I love to get a nice hatchet for $3.

There's a thread maybe a year old about these tiny hatchets/pocket axes, some info there.
"mini axes", started by Jurisprudence.

You've got me!
The Craftsman is easily distinguishable from the regular Vaughan because the blade is shorter.
Older "Trapper's hatchets" will be similar to the Vaughan, but might be tempered harder, or less precisely.

I would very much like to see an end grain picture of that handle. I think that I see horizontal grain and in my belief, that cannot be purchased from Vaughan.

Thanks,

Jimbo
