I love these pouches for my EDC. Bought a few over the years in brick and mortars. Now, I want to find one online and don't know what to search for.

Probably originally a pistol magazine pouch

I doubt it. Mag pouches have wider openings.

It appears to be some kind of generic knife sleeve stitched into a belt loop at the top. It looks really simple. You could probably sew one yourself if you wanted to. You could make it with 2 pieces of fabric. One long piece with a loop at the top for your belt, and then one piece over the front to form the sleeve where the knife slides in.

🤷‍♂️ there's nothing to scale it to, which is why I said pistol mag pouch.
Could be anything I suppose. Torch, knife, pens.

Now that you mention it, it does look an awful lot like one of those mini maglite holsters. 🤔 I bet it's for a flashlight.

If it's military it should have the item Nomenclature and suppliers cage code on it somewhere
This.

That's no military configuration I've ever seen, and if it's one I've never seen then the supply tag will be there with all the pertinent "MIL-" info.

I'm betting on the Mini Mag-Lite pouch angle on this one.

Humph. Thanks a lot, guys. I have gotten three of these years apart at surplus stores and a friend once saw one and mumbled something about using one when he was in the military. I guess that's not conclusive proof that it is in fact military.
It's perfect for carrying a Svord Peasant (modified) or an Opinel while being very unobtrusive, which is perfect for a retired old fart. (Grey man tactics become the best way then)

My Svord catches on the top seam when pulling it out, though. I wanted to play with trying to fix that and I wanted an extra. Any ideas on how to make the internal seam smoother?

In Canada in the 80s we used to have a similar pouch that would hold a demo knife in the open pocket and then another tool in the velcro pouch. I probably still have one somewhere.

I'm not sure but I think my dad bought one of these with the Camo mini maglite from the BX in the late 80's, I think the cases they came with were black.

I know my dad gave me one of these pouches out of the junk drawer when I was a kid, he was carrying his Gerber MP and minimag in a Nite-ize pock-its at that time so the it was of course empty and he didn't remember what it went to when he gave it to me.

I would suggest it isn't military issue of any kind based on the open top, they would want is more secure than that. Based on the 5/4" deck board it is sitting on for scale, it could be a 1911 mag pouch or more likely a flashlight(mini mag) or glow stick pouch.
