Okay, before you have a heart attack. :p

Just wondered if there was any interest in this. I know straight razors (good ones) normally go for $200-$300. How many people would like to see an economy model from Spyderco?

I'm thinking VG-10 (or ZDP-189), FRN scales, pinned, no liners, no clip.

Sounds good to me:thumbup:

And we know Sal loves the straight razor...so it could happen!

edit- I'll take mine in CF/ZDP though:D I guess a FRN user would be great as well, lol.

That's part of what got me thinking about this. The things I don't know are the fineness of the edge that can be archived with H1, and the edge retention. I'm not saying it has to be ZDP-189 levels (although that would be really cool), but I think VG-10 would be a good stainless steel straight razor if my Mcusta provides any example.

I'd get Spydie straight razor in a heartbeat, especially if it was laminated ZDP.

H1 would be the best steel to use, wouldn't it? Razors go dull because the edge corrodes microscopically, so I think it makes the most sense to go with the rust-proof H1.

ZDP-189, is one of the top stainless. It contains 20% Chromium. It Rc's 65-67 hardness at the same time, I don't see how you could beat it.

I hate to rain on any parades, but this subject has come up before. Sal knows a LOT about straight razors and doesn't feel they would benefit greatly from stainless steels. He felt the market would be very tough to break into, as the top makers put out excellent products, and that is where he would want to compete (you don't get where he is now by challenging the guys at the bottom). Of course, that was how he felt about it last year, and the current economy might have him more willing to invest in another risky, low profit area along with the Mules (yeah, right).

Having had a full beard for over twenty years, I doubt I'd buy one if he did put one out, but stranger things have happened.
