i acquired two circle saw blades 16" & 18" that have been taken out of service. they were carbide toothed, freud name brand. these are made in italy from german steel. after several emails to germany i finally convinced them to tell me what kind of steel it was, etc. it is as follows:
mill grade C 75.
The analysis you will see as follows.
C 75
C 0,79 - 0,82 Si 0,15 - 0,25 Mn 0,40 - 0,50 P max. 0,020
S max. 0,003 Cr max. 0,15 Al 0,020 - 0,,035
Instruction for heat treatment.
hardening-process: 810 - 840 degrees celsius, hardness approx. 62 HRc.
quenching in oil.
tempering-process: 200 degrees celsius, approx. 58 HRc
300 degrees celsius, approx. 54 HRc
350 degrees celsius, approx. 50 HRc
400 degrees celsius, approx. 47 HRc
450 degrees celsius, approx. 44 HRc
500 degrees celsius, approx. 41 HRc
can anyone inform me as to whether or not to fool w/this steel to make knives with?
thanks in advance for all the help and info.
