We were cleaning out my in-laws parent's house the other night, and went down into their bomb shelter. Inside, there was a decrepit old dresser that hadn't been gone through yet. Considering we are planning on selling the house ASAP, we stayed a little while longer to clean it out ourselves. Good thing we did, because behind drawer number two, was this bad boy:

I just would like to know what it is. I think its an old machete, but its not very big. I thought it was a Bowie knife, but it has no crossguard and the clip point is not traditional to a BK. I am planning on keeping it, just would like to know what it is. Thank you.

Looks to be an old butcher knife. Yours has a really thick blade stock. Google Old Hickory for similar type of knife. Nice find, sharpen it but don't take that patina off with anything.

I Googled 'Old hickory' and it does look very similar. The handle is different on those, but it does look reminiscent of an old 12" butcher knife, like you said. I will definitely sharpen it, and leave the rest of it in pristine order. Thanks for the info!
