Okay, along with putting together a new machine I'm also unloading an older one. My brother works for apple computer and from time to time he gets older hardware that they are giving away or that they have used for a test bed or whatever. Anyway, at some point he got his hands on this machine and sent it to me. I played around with it a little bit and decided although it seemed nice I was just to firmly indoctrinated into the PC world and didn't want to relearn everything so I could use a MAC. I'd like to put it on ebay or something. The only problem is... I don't know what it is. I've tried doing internet searches but of course mostly what I get is current technology which is no help. Here is what it looks like:

Anyone know what I'm looking at here and/or potential value? Thanks!

It's an iMac G4.

Click on the "Apple" menu and select "About this Mac".

Thanks guy. I feel slightly retarded now for not checking that but... heck I didn't mess with it much so that's sort of an excuse right? I wonder what an imac g4 goes for these days...

Wow! I went and took a look on ebay. Machines equivalent to the one I've got seem to be going for between 500 and 700+ dollars! Cool! This is going to help pay for my new PC! :) I was going to sell the thing for 50 bucks or something to get it out of the house. Thanks Michael!!!!

LOL.... Why don't you take it for a test drive, while you've got it? Between now and when you get your new PC, try using the iMac for everything that you usually do online.

I messed about with it a bit... but it's all bass ackwards you know? :) Everything from the maximize minimize buttons on the windows to the way the desk top is laid out seems to be designed to be exactly the mirror image of a windows based p.c. Don't even get me started about that bizarro no button mouse. :) I know I know, they are technically superior (my brother works for them remember :) ) but you get used to doing things a certain way and who wants to relearn something that is second nature when so far as I can tell for what I do there is no huge benefit? If I was doing serious multimedia type stuff I'd by all reports want to hang onto it but I'm not. Basically I'm doing email, a little website maintenance, some word processing, a few video games. Betamax was superior too... :)

I wishh I had known that you were getting a free one-I just bought a mac mini and monitor. RRRrrrrr
