What is This Type of Carbon Fiber?

There are different kinds of CF, like Fat Carbon, end cut, etc.

I am old school and prefer this CF type - the original, but not sure what it is called. Woven CF, or just plain CF? I like the 3D effect. The upper knife is lightening strike, which is just a thread of copper, etc., woven in the CF material.

Yea it's a carbon fiber weave, most of them look like a 2x2 weave. The top right looks like it has metal fibers in it, although that could just be the lighting. If they have the metal fiber, they're often called "lightning strike" or just "lightning" CF, because the metal fibers are supposed to help guide and ground the electricity from a lightning strike in aerospace applications. That being said, I've only ever seen "lightning" CF on knives, not in actual aerospace applications...

Yah it seems like manufacturers use different terms for what you're referring as "regular carbon fiber". As you said, usually it seems like they just call it "woven cf" or just "cf" .

Thanx to everyone for your responses. Yes, the Joel Chamblin custom slip joint (upper right) has lightning strike CF.

Holy Moly! You have a whole dollar left after buying all those cool knives?

I just have lint in my pocket...
Which means he can have TWO packages of ramens for dinner!

I love CF, but the woven look is probably my favorite.

Lightning strike is my favorite.
