A Buck Vanguard 192. Available everywhere but most sites just say "woodgrain handle"

Anyone know WHAT wood it is? I've seen what looks to be the same color/type of handle decribed as Cherrywood, Cocobolo, and Rosewood but they all look similar(reddish)
Are there that many types or are the dealers mistaken(it happens especially on the 'bay.

A few ones:

I think Buck uses Dymondwood, but there are people here who would know better then me...

Two posts above mine are right. It's aka Pakkawood and several other monickers I can't recall right now.
It's typically slices of Birch dyed and acrylic laminated together under a great deal of pressure.

Yes...clearly a laminate.

What confused me....as I'm no Buck expert...is the typical Vanguard 192 sold around the 'net is "described" many places as cocobolo and cherrywood and one Bass Pro Shops ad even said Rosewood by the pic but cherrywood in the specs.

I was just wondering if there were multiple wood handled version available but I suspect its just ignorant marketing.

Either way...I'm getting one. Probably the S30V Cabelas Alaskan Guide one which is always spec'd as Rosewood(whether it actually is or not)

They name the different colors of the laminate by whatever wood they think best fits the color of the dyed laminate.
I had a "cocobolo" Vanguard and it was reddish brown colored Dymondwood.
It's all in the Marketing...:barf:

Yeah, don't let that keep you from getting one. They are great knives and the laminate holds up pretty well.
