What Is This?

It's also stamped and not laser etched and has the old smoother coating.

Its a great chopper and $69 is a great price.

Thanks!

I guess I was asking if it is a 'special edition' or limited-run or something....it's weird cause it's cheaper the the 'regular' BK4 Machax??

Ka Bar was calling it the BK4 LE last year. I think it was a limited run because they were about to switch to laser engraving and the new coating.

It certainly doesnt look like it in the video I watched it for 2 minutes and you still werent through that wood:D

Keep watching, I get through eventually. ;)

well one good swing of Mauser's beard and he'd be clean through :D hes at least giving the wood a fighting chance

I apologize for asking this before properly introducing myself to the BKT forum but I'm curious if there's a practical reason NOT to pick this stamped version with the older coating? I haven't been especially good this year, but Santa might just have to suck it up at this price.

I have a 2, 9, and 16 and was planning on rounding out with an Eskabar or BK-15 next but since I already want one of each model this seems like too good a price to pass up.

I did NOT see any reason NOT to order one! So I went and ordered one straight-away....haven't got it yet tho! We'll see!

You're going to like it. You do realize you are required to post pictures when it arrives..

Nothing that's not cosmetic. Same knife, steel, scales. The only differences on the newer ones are the textured coating and the laser engraving.
Though it's mostly nostalgia, I actually like the stamped versions and went out of my way to get ahold of the Tweeners that were stamped.

Unless you just want it for collecting, IMHO since you already have a 9, the 4 would be redundant.

Redundant, or awesome? :D

Nothing wrong with the stamped Machax. The coating comes off easier, but it batons and chops with less drag than the new powdercoat. Mine worked like a champ all summer, keeping the two dozen trees in my yard nice and pruned.

Thanks much for your replies. Looking at the price again, this time with shipping and without bourbon, made my "holy crap a deal!" drool dry up a little bit. Think I will go with an Eskabar and some Izula handles instead for a more practical use but I'm gonna think about it the rest of the day. I already have a Buck Packlite Skinner as a small detail knife but it tore my hands up a bit when I tried carving a spoon. As much as I like the looks of the Machax I think what I already have covers the uses of that model.

Weird how it sometimes helps to write things down to make sense to yourself isn't it?

Regardless I'll hunt up my camera and introduce myself properly soon, thanks for your time.
