What is this?

I was at work last week up in the woods and I saw this thing growing. There were a few around (most of them dead) but It's not something I've seen before. When you touch the stalk it's really sticky but the goo won't stick to you. It's a pretty interesting looking plant. Anyway, if you all have any ideas let me know. I'll take some more pictures of my 'office' on Monday. It's a pretty place (with lots of mature cedars and berries) especially compared to this dry prairie I live on.
