Howdy,

I've been visiting this forum for years, but just joined today. I appreciate the knowledge that is shared here and need help. I buy knives all the time, usually of the handmade variety. I recently bought one that I have my doubts about. I know what the man claimed the scales on this knife are made of, but again, I have my doubts. I know it's hard to tell from pictures, but could anyone tell me what they believe these scales are made of?

Thanks for the replies. He told me it was mammoth ivory, but I was leary to believe him. I guess I need more faith in people. I've never seen mammoth ivory in these parts.

I fell in love with this knife the first time I saw it. He told me the story on it, then it took me nine months to talk him into selling it to me.

Ivory (mammoth or elephant) has shrager lines (chevrons) that show through the structure when viewed up close. I can't see any hints of that in the photos, but you do have to look close.
